Towels All Around

My mother used to give me kitchen towels that had crochet tops on them. I have always loved them and always have one hanging on my refrigerator door as well as my stove’s handle.

As they are getting pretty old, I wanted to make some more for my home. I couldn’t find many crochet patterns for them online so I made up my own pattern.

Here are some samples, and I have begun making matching dishcloths to round out the sets – and people are loving them! I have orders for them all the time and love to make them and spread the happiness!

Enjoy!!

Summer Fun and Water Balloons

A few weeks ago, the internet crochet world was crazy with photos, posts and a pattern for crochet water balloons. At first, I thought, “These are so cute, but are they really practical?” Thus began my research…

An aunt of mine hosts several large cookouts each summer, and these cookouts inevitable include a giant water balloon fight for all the children and their parents. My aunt has a dog, so I usually walk around the yard picking up the little broken shreds of balloons so that the dog won’t eat them. So, I decided to make her a set of crochet water balloons. My husband and I played with them (to test, of course) before I gave them to my aunt. THEY WORK! They are amazing!

I bought a bunch of the fluffy blanket yarn, called for in the pattern and got to work. I have made several sets and shipped the orders out! Everyone loves them! They soak up lots of water and are environmentally a much better option than regular balloons!

  • Just dunk in water and throw!
  • No mess!
  • Reusable!
  • Machine washable and dryer safe (delicate settings for both)!

If you are interested in purchasing a set, they are available as follows:

  • Set of 6 (rainbow): $15.00
  • Set of 6 (mixed/random colors of my choice): $15.00
  • Set of 10 (rainbow): $20.00
  • Set of 10 (mixed/random colors of my choice): $20.00
  • Add a beach pail to hold/carry/dunk them: $5.00
  • PLUS SHIPPING

Owls, Rugs and Pretty Colors

Awhile back, I was asked to make an owl rug for a baby girl’s nursery. The Mom had found a photo online somewhere and forwarded it to me, asking if I would be willing to make this for her baby because the nursery is decorated in owls. The colors of the nursery are green, pink and white… so she also requested those colors in the rug.

Let me start off by saying that I am so thankful my husband fully supports my hobbies and dreams! This project required crocheting with 3 strands at a time, so he drilled holes in plastic storage/filing bins to make it easier for me to work – this way the skeins won’t roll all over the floor or get tangled!!

The stitches are huge – especially those bobbles! You can see some progression photos here; I love how fast it worked up and I am in LOVE with the colors!

I added a non-slip backing so the rug will stay put!! I don’t want anyone slipping and getting hurt.

As you know already, this was worked with 3 strands of yarn so it’s BIG!! I took pictures with my hand and foot so you can see how big it is.

Here are the specs:
Each eye is 11” in diameter
The rug is 36” in diameter
Circumference is 113”

Here is a link to the pattern designer, should you want to purchase the pattern and make one of your own:  https://irarott.com/Owl_Rug_Crochet_Pattern.html

It is necessary to note that I made a few changes to my project – for instance, the largest green circle on the rug portion is not shown in the pattern as bobble stitches. This was an issue for me when I changed it, because this also changed the stitch counts for the rest of the rounds and I had to “rewrite” it a bit to make them work.

Happy notes from recipients and customers make me so happy!

I received the following message from the Mom after she received her new rug:

“Hi Wendy,
Thank you so much for the crocheted owl! I absolutely love it! As a fellow crochet lover (that doesn’t have time anymore!), I really appreciate the time and talent that went into making such a beautiful piece. It will look fantastic in my daughter’s bedroom!
Thank you!!”
